These one-off three hour classes, will cover basic sewing skills through to specific techniques.

There is no prerequisite for these classes.

Subjects we will cover are;

‘Help, I’ve never used a sewing machine’ - sewing 101

  • Setting up a machine

  • Needle choice

  • Stitch types and uses

  • Plain sewing

  • Fabric grain lines

  • Easing

  • Sewing darts/tucks/gathers

  • Basic edge finishes

  • Basic hemming technique

Seams, openings and finishing techniques’ - sewing, levelled up

  • French, open, felled and bound seams

  • Button holes & loops, lapped, exposed and invisible zips

  • Bagging out and binding edges

  • Double turned, bagged out and blind stitched hems

  • Fusing, stay stitching, hand finishes

You’ll be provided with pre-cut fabric and required trims to construct the above techniques, print outs of each technique you’ve learned, for future reference and a folder to store all your samples in.

‘I’ve got my own, thanks’ - work on your own project

  • Use the space & tools and get advice on your project

Please bring with you;

  • Pins

  • Scissors

  • Sewing thread

  • Domestic sewing machine, if you have access to one (please note in booking if you need to borrow one).
